Richard Sanborn and
Calista Sullivan bought the Tin Can Mailman from Will in 1994. Former
librarians from southern California, Richard and Calista brought their love and
knowledge of books to Arcata. They reinvigorated the store with a historical
landmark renovation grant from the city.
Five years later,
Richard and Calista sold the Tin Can book store to "Wa," who worked
for Will the last year of his ownership, and continued as store manager with
Richard. Wa is a native of
Cambodia and grew up with her family in Orange County. She escaped to
Humboldt and has found a home amongst the shelves. She is grateful for the continued
support from the local community which has allowed this small business to
flourish.
