| Lassen to Dixie |
| Wadeth & Mark |
|
Our voyage of canyon hikes began with a drive across n. CA, Nevada,
and Utah. The drive contained several nice surprises, including a great
canyon state park in Nevada, and brilliant aspen forest in Dixie NF. |
| 1. We left home and drove due east, to Lassen Volcanic park, where we camped the first night by a frigid creek. |
|
| 2. Arriving just before dark, we scrambled up this hillside which was covered with red pummice stone of a very light weight. Everything was crumbly and collapsing under foot, but I needed to run after a long drive. |

| 6. Kershaw-Ryan State Park is a great place to spend a night or two. It's 2 miles south of Caliente in southeastern Nevada. |

| 14. I wanted to go to the eastern US this fall to see the leaves change color, and I had been longing to see this for a while. So I was very excited when we entered the Dixie National Forest and the brillian aspens were all changing to bright yellow! |
